Looking for something for your keiki to do this summer? Here’s a lineup of activities that will be held on Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Check back for updates as we get closer to summer.
Drug Education For Youth (DEFY)
DEFY is a self-esteem building program that provides kids with the tools they need to resist drugs, gangs, and alcohol. DEFY focuses on building youngsters’ self-image and setting goals. It stresses interpersonal relations and emphasizes leadership and teamwork.
DEFY is actively recruiting for Youth aged 9-12 years old for the yearlong Drug Education for Youth program on Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
DEFY is also recruiting for Junior Mentor Volunteers (Ages 13 – 17 y/o) from our community. Junior Mentor Volunteers will gain experience in Logistics, Leadership, Team Building, Public Speaking and much more! All time accumulated in DEFY accrues toward volunteer service hours.
The following opportunities are available for both youth and mentor programs:
- 8-Days Summer Leadership Program: Mon-Th July 16-19 and July 23-26 – 0800-1600
- Mentoring with Youth one Saturday a Month: 3rd Saturday of each month 0800-1400 – Aug ‘18- May ’19

Summer Reading Program at the Library
Sign up, read books, log what you’ve read and win a prize!
The kickoff for our summer reading program is June 9, 1000-1200 at the Base Library. The program runs from June 9-July 21. Keep track of how many minutes of reading you do and log it online at MCCSHawaii.Beanstack.org. Participate in Storytime and other events all summer. Come to the closing party on July 21 from 1200-1400 for our final activities and the prize drawing. See this Summer Reading PDF (3MB) for complete details.

Young Chippers Take up Golf at the Klipper
The Klipper Junior Golf Program is a year-round program to bring children and teens to the game of golf. Focusing on basic playing skills, rules and golf etiquette, our program is one of the finest developmental programs in the state of Hawaii. Coaching is provided by certified PGA Professionals and the golfers get individualized attention, which adds to the quickest and most efficient improvement.
Who: All authorized patrons aged 5 – 17
When: Each session is five weeks long. Classes are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4:00 – 5:00 pm for the younger beginning golfers and 5:00 – 6:00 pm for the more experienced golfers.
Cost: $200 for the initial session (includes PGA logo golf shirt) and $150 for every session thereafter. Also includes free golf for the junior golfer on Tuesday afternoons after 4:00 pm.
What to bring: Juniors can bring their own clubs or the staff can provide them. Collared shirts are mandatory. Tennis shoes and or golf shoes are acceptable dress. For detailed information call Mo Radke at (808) 386-3500.
Semper Fit KidFit Program
KidFit is a GREAT opportunity for children ages 6 thru 12 to learn all aspects of physical well being. Your child will learn the importance of warming up, stretching, cardio respiratory fitness, strength and conditioning as well as cool downs. Our summer sessions are as follows:
- Section 1: June 4–8
- Section 2: June 11–15
- Section 3: June 18–22
- Section 4: June 25–29
- Section 5: July 9–13
- Section 6: July 16–20
- Section 7: July 23–27
Each session runs Mon/Wed/Fri at 8:30-10:30am at the Semper Fit Center. Visit the Semper Fit Center to sign up or call 254-7597 for more information. Tennis Pups Junior Tennis
All classes will include:
- An emphasis on the fundamental tennis strokes (volley, groundstrokes, smash, and serve)
- Hand-eye coordination and movement to the ball
- Basic rules and etiquette of tennis
- FUN games that practice the coordination, strokes, and movements being taught
- The age appropriate ball speed, racquet and court size (QuickStart) will be used
